Tips on Being a Good Work at Home Mom
On the surface, work at home moms seem to have the best of both worlds - they get to stay at home with their kids all day and make a great living while they do it. However, it takes a lot of work (and the right mindset!) to be one of the successful work at home moms. If you think it's just as simple as setting up your computer and leisurely working in sweatpants, think again. In fact, if you don't have these 3 skills, you won't be able to make it as a work at home mom:
The ability to deal with adversity
Despite how you may envision it, being a work at home mom doesn't mean casually holding a conference call while your children sit quietly coloring in the corner. Instead, you are going to have to deal with things like chocolate milk being spilled on your desk, runny noses that are louder that the person on the other end of your phone call, and dirty diapers that have to be changed before you can sit down and send that urgent email. If you can't successfully navigate the daily (or even hourly!) bumps in the road, you will never get to reap all of the benefits that successful work at home moms have!
Great time-management skills
Can you balance answering emails with nap time? Can you brainstorm ideas while your kids watch "Sesame Street"? Work at home moms have to juggle parenting with running a business. With all of those responsibilities, you will have to make the most out of each minute of the day. If you can't get work done in between carpools and temper tantrums, you will never be a successful work at home mom.
The ability to work with noise around you
Work at home moms don't have the luxury of sitting in a quiet office building or putting in a set of headphones and working away. If you want to be a successful work at home mom, you will have to be able to work in a noisy environment. If you can't get anything done without total silence, you won't be able to get much work done at home with the kids playing, the dog barking, and the dryer buzzer going off. Great work at home moms can get work done with The Wiggles dancing in the background, with Cookie Monster yelling for just one more tasty treat, and with Sponge Bob Squarepants singing under the sea.
