Technical Writer
This is a full-time position as a consulting member of the technical writing staff at Oracle America, located in Redwood Shores, CA. Experience with Oracle Databases, high availability, DITA, and online help development are strong pluses.

As an IC4, you will have significant responsibility for technical documentation projects and manage several high-profile deliverables. Your projects will be developed using overlaping schedules and you will work under pressure. You will design and write conceptually complex documentation, recognize design dependencies with related product documentation and/or products, and propose design changes or new designs. You will also provide subject matter guidance company-wide to all levels, including senior management. You need an expert understanding of concepts, terminology, and business processes in the database and high availability industry, and understand how these concepts can be used in Oracle documentation. You should also maintain excellent working relationships with all team members, development contacts, product management, quality assurance, and documentation management. Telecommuting is available based on performance.
  • B.S. or M.S. degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area.
  • 7 or more years of documentation development or software engineering or related experience.
  • Global job level = IC4.
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products, services, and processes, while frequently operating at the leading edge of technology.
  • Recommend and justify major changes to existing products, services, and processes.
Brief Description
Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.

Detailed Description
As a member of the technical writing division, you will organize and prepare information for publication and develop publication concepts for the best communication of subject matter. Review technical information prepared by other staff members for clarity and content. Take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures.

Job Requirements
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
