POSITION SUMMARY
  • Reviews hospital patient medical record documentation to select and sequence the appropriate ICD-9-CM diagnosis, and ICD-9-CM and HCPCS procedure codes.
  • Applies all appropriate coding guidelines and criteria for code selections. Performs coding for multiple hospitals.
  • Adheres to Company and HSC Coding Compliance policies and procedures for the assignment of complete, accurate, timely, and consistent codes for diagnoses and procedures.
  • Codes records for multiple facilities
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Dedicated home based work space with access to high speed cable Internet available.
EDUCATION
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent required
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 1 year acute care hospital outpatient coding experience, minimum 6 months of coding experience with a CCA certification, or a graduate of an AHIMA approved RHIT/RHIA program
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCA preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
  • Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Work is performed in a commercial or home office environment. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Staff must remain flexible and available to provide staffing assistance for any/all disaster or emergency situations
